Time to look inside the engine:
Please chime in...I've never opened an engine before....seen it done many times, but this is my first time. I need trained eyes to be my guide and alert me. Everything feels and looks very tight. Lifting the head was difficult but I got it out and to my surprise everything looks ok...at least I don't see major catastrophic failure anywhere. There is a huge amount of sediment on the bottom of the liners...at least an inch of crud. Is there a way to clean this out without a major dismantle?
The crank pulley has markings but they're not visible over the rust. Is this a spica type pulley?
Cylinder 1
Cylinder 2
Cylinder 3
Cylinder 4
The head gasket looks ok...no brake thru anywhere!
